M.C. Beaton's Hamish Macbeth series and The Poor Relation, an historical romance series, have both been optioned by Free@Last TV, currently producing the Agatha Raisin series, adapted from her best-selling novels and starring Ashley Jensen. The company is based in London and Scotland and is run by Barry Ryan and David A. Walton. Free@Last has produced over 450 hours of primetime television, including numerous factual entertainment series, as well as Martina Cole’s high-end drama series, Lady Killers.
The Poor Relation is one of M.C. Beaton's hidden treasures, a wonderful period piece with marvellous characters and a brilliant twisty premise that has long called out to be made into a compelling television series. This 6-book series is published by RosettaBooks in the US and Little, Brown in the UK, as well as by Blackstone Audio.
Hamish Macbeth is Beaton’s tour de force and has long been overdue to return to television. The series, with 31 titles, is still going strong. The novels are published by Grand Central Publishing in the US and Little, Brown in the UK, as well as in translated editions in Germany, Korea, Estonia, Hungary, Poland, Thailand, and India.
